Motion graphics is literally graphics in motion. So animated text, photos, footage, icons and even characters to present information, promote a product or explain something.

There is a bit of overlap between animation and motion graphics, but one way to distinguish between the two is motion graphics has its roots in graphic design, whereas animation has its roots in illustration.
